Season opener features audience favorites from past years — spirituals, popular songs, and classical works — plus the world premiere of To Touch the Sky (Nine Songs for Unaccompanied Chorus on Texts by Women) by 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winner Kevin Puts, an a cappella work featuring writings from ancient to modern, commissioned for Conspirare by American Composers Forum.

Fusion: Choral Song Meets Slam Poetry

Passionate and powerful young Austin slam poets Lacey Roop, Kevin Burke, and Danny Strack join Craig Hella Johnson and six Conspirare singers to improvise, riff, and interweave musical magic with the spoken word. An innovative evening of choral music re-defined.


Songs of the Soul

Conspirare and the Victoria Bach Festival string orchestra reprise Robert Kyr’s Songs of the Soul, commissioned by Conspirare and hailed by The Wall Street Journal as “a powerful new achievement in American music.” Also featuring the world premiere of a new Kyr work, The Cloud of Unknowing, commissioned by Conspirare and based on texts from an eponymous 14th-century spiritual guidebook.


Beethoven: Missa Solemnis

Craig Hella Johnson conducts Conspirare Symphonic Choir, Conspirare, Texas State University singers, and the Victoria Bach Festival Orchestra and Chorus in Beethoven’s monumental masterwork — the 20th season’s grand finale. With soloists soprano Mary Wilson, mezzo-soprano Emily Lodine, tenor Dann Coakwell, and bass Kevin Deas.

The acclaimed Conspirare Youth Choirs’ popular holiday concert will include seasonal works by Bob Chilcott, Eleanor Daley, Franz Gruber, and Edward Henderson. Featuring Derek Holman’s Sir Christemas, with piano, harp, full percussion, cello, and flute accompaniment.

AMERICAN GLORY

The Conspirare Youth Choirs’ spring concert will explore our homeland’s rich tapestry of vocal music: traditional spirituals, folk music from the Appalachians to Hawaii, and Jazz standards.

Conspirare travels to France as one of twelve invited vocal ensembles from around the world for a week-long appearance at the biennial Polyfollia Festival. A unique and exciting evening to celebrate Conspirare’s 20th anniversary! Music (including a world premiere or two by Craig Hella Johnson), dinner, wines, and auction. Proceeds benefit Conspirare’s world-class performances, recordings, and educational programs.
