♦ Missa Solemnis will be presented without an intermission.

Featuring soloists soprano Mary Wilson, mezzo-soprano Emily Lodine, tenor Dann Coakwell, and bass-baritone Kevin Deas.

Thrill to the irresistible dynamism of one of the world’s most dramatic choral works. Craig Hella Johnson conducts an expanded Company of Voices (including Conspirare Symphonic Choir, Texas State Chorale singers, and Victoria Bach Festival Chorus singers), four renowned soloists, and full Victoria Bach Festival orchestra in Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis in D major Op. 123 (completed 1823).

Missa Solemnis is a spectacularly beautiful, concert-length work that’s rarely performed because it requires such massive artistic and organizational forces. Yet despite its enormity, the music is eminently listenable – by turns majestic and sweet, always uplifting and inspiring. A 2006 NPR story called Missa Solemnis “extreme in its grandeur, sonic color and power…and beauty.” Conspirare’s performance will be a highlight of Austin’s classical music season.
