Robert Kyr’s Songs of the Soul transfixed audiences and critics when Conspirare premiered it in 2011 as part of the “Renaissance & Response” weekend-long event. Now the Company of Voices, soprano and baritone soloists Estelí Gomez and David Farwig, and the Victoria Bach Festival string orchestra will reprise this enthralling modern cantata in a new sacred space with superb acoustics. A sublime evening not to be missed!

The Cloud of Unknowing (world premiere)
The program (which will be recorded for a harmonia mundi CD) will also feature the world premiere of a new 20/25-minute Kyr work The Cloud of Unknowing, also performed with string orchestra. The new work is a setting of texts adapted by Kyr from three sources: “The Cloud of Unknowing,” a spiritual guide to contemplative prayer written in the 14th century; the writings of Meister Eckhart, a 14th century mystic; and the poetry of St. Theresa of Avila, a 16th century Spanish mystic who greatly influenced St. John of the Cross. St. Theresa of Avila’s texts directly connect The Cloud of Unknowing to Songs of the Soul.

Both works with Victoria Bach Festival String Ensemble
