The Conspirare singers arrive on Monday and we’ll begin in earnest on Pietà, the oratorio that opens our comPassion festival. We have really enjoyed working with composer John Muehleisen (pictured right) as we prepare this piece, which is musically inspired by folk tunes and J.S. Bach as well as John’s own compositional voice. Just a few days ago John shared this review of the Pietà premiere: http://thesunbreak.com/2012/03/15/instant-acclaim-for-john-muehleisens-pieta/. Reviewer Philippa Kiraly captures the impact this piece had on one person, and also speaks to what makes it unique and how it fits into the choral repertoire. Please visit the PIETÀ program page to hear some audio excerpts from Pietà that will give you the flavor of its musical and emotional beauty.
