Allegro Ensemble Headlines at the Southwestern Division of the American Choral Directors Association Conference in Oklahoma City

A year ago, our Allegro ensemble was invited to give a headline performance at the Southwestern Division of the American Choral Association conference (SWACDA) in Oklahoma City and this past week, it became a reality! During this performance, Allegro debuted a brand new piece that was written specifically for CYC! We invited the composer, Mark Heirholzer, to one of our earlier rehearsals and he later told us “Your interpretation of my piece is exquisite. The choir sang with great beauty and energy. I am very pleased.” One of our own singers, Sarah Helmbrecht, added, “The world needs to hear our music.” Sentiments like these are the reason we make music; to impact our young artists and to share the universal beauty of song with the world. I will leave you with some words from Nina Revering, Artistic Director, on our SWACDA program, “Last summer when we began planning for this performance, I was so inspired by how far we have come since 2005.  It all began with a dream.  Dreaming is what allowed the CYC to begin, to thrive, and to deepen.  The word “dream” was the guiding star of [this] program: the majority of the music comes from other worlds created on the silver screen.[…] Like a dream, everything in open to interpretation, and I hope you enjoy experiencing this evening journey with us. “
