Douglas Easterling

Douglas Easterling is a singer and musicologist in the Cincinnati area. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in music history, music theory, and ethnomusicology at Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. A versatile tenor, Easterling recently performed Handel’s Messiah with Collegium Cincinnati, a night of Broadway and pop selections with Queen City Cabaret, and a concert of the choral works of Sir James MacMillan. An active choral singer, Easterling regularly performs with Cincinnati’s Vocal Arts Ensemble, Cincinnati Fusion Ensemble, the May Festival Chorus, and the St. Peter in Chains Cathedral Choir. He wrote his master’s thesis on self-reference in the operas of Richard Strauss and is currently completing his PhD dissertation on vocal ornamentation and improvisation (“riffing”) in popular music.
