Fresh Off the Page: New Music by Craig Hella Johnson
Step into an intimate listening room as 12 Conspirare singers workshop new music and explorations from Craig Hella Johnson right in front of you. Includes movements from This One Body (working title), a new multi-movement work.
Craig shared this about This One Body:
“The title holds two things at once: the one body each of us actually lives in, with all its ache and appetite and grace, and the larger body of all that is, of which we are each an inseparable and divine part. Around it I’m writing solo art songs for each of the twelve singers, as well as new songs in the musical theater tradition toward a possible larger work (a first musical), new choral music for Christmas and other Conspirare programs, and choral arrangements of songs by Eliza Gilkyson.
Underneath all of it is a question I can’t put down: how can the music I make serve the larger good? How can it help people wake to their own lives — how can I be a conduit for something soul-guided, something that brings joy and peace and healing, and draws us into real community with one another?”
