Piedra de sol Album Release Celebration
Celebrate the release of Piedra de sol with composer Joby Talbot and Conspirare Artistic Director Craig Hella Johnson. They’ll discuss the journey of creating Piedra de sol and answer viewer questions.
Conspirare recorded Piedra de Sol after its Austin premiere in January 2026. A setting of Nobel Laureate Octavio Paz’ epic poem of the same name, this 70-minute continuous musical work mirrors the poet’s cyclical narrative of time and the human experience, featuring a range of vocal textures, complex rhythms, and passages for a single voice. The voices are underpinned by just one instrument: the marimba, performed by Tom Burritt, contributing to an otherworldly musical palette. The piece’s commissioning, performance, and recording was made possible by Joel Brauer Fund for New Music and Tejemos Foundation.
Event link will be published here on August 20.

Craig and Joby pause before the drive to Piedra de sol recording sessions.
