Elijah McCormack, sopranist, has garnered praise for his “cool control and warmth of tone” (Washington Post) in performances throughout North America and abroad. A versatile singer, he performs a mix of opera, oratorio, and choral repertoire, in genres ranging from medieval music to new premieres. He regularly performs with top ensembles throughout North America, including Seraphic Fire, Ensemble Altera, The Crossing, and Santa Fe Desert Chorale. He has been featured as a soloist with several of the above, as well as with early music organizations such as Washington Bach Consort, American Bach Soloists, Dallas Bach Society, the Newberry Consort, and Ars Lyric Houston. On the opera stage, he recently appeared as Semira in Haymarket Opera Company’s North American premiere of Vinci’s Artaserse, which he also sings on Haymarket’s 2026 album. Further opera credits include Opera Lafayette’s Dido and Aeneas (Aeneas); Haymarket Opera’s L’incoronazione di Poppea (Amore/Valletto); IN Series’s The Return of Ulysses (Telemachus) and Poppea (Cupid/Valletto); IlluminArts Miami’s Turn of the Screw (Miles); and Lowell House Opera’s world premiere of Benjamin P. Wenzelberg’s NIGHTTOWN (Bell[x] Cohen). He was awarded first place and audience favorite in the 11th annual Handel Aria Competition in 2024, and second place in the Oratorio Society of New York’s Woodside Solo Competition in 2023. He received his Master’s degree in Historical Performance at Indiana University, where he studied with Steven Rickards. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in studio art from Skidmore College.
