Your Austin Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to bring Steven Spielberg’s 1977 masterpiece, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, to Austin. Widely considered one of the most treasured and influential science fiction films of all time, Close Encounters of the Third Kind features a groundbreaking score written by John Williams, which will now be performed live to picture! Don’t miss this amazing event on October 26th in Long Center’s Dell Hall with the back-up voices of the Conspirare Symphonic Choir.

Conspirare and the Los Angeles, Texas and Austin Guitar Quartets come together under the baton of Craig Hella Johnson to perform Nico Muhly’s enchanting How Little You Are.  This five-part work sets texts of 19th-century pioneer women. The program will also feature a world premiere by composer Kile Smith.

Frank Martin’s masterwork Mass for Double Choir is the centerpiece of this concert showcasing works for double choir.  Enjoy the interplay of double choir as brought to life by the world-class singers of Conspirare.  Khalil Gibran’s poem “On Friendship” begins the evening in a luminous setting by Eriks Esenvalds. The program also includes “I Would Rather Die Than Hate You,” a setting of Martin Luther King’s  words, by composer Paul Ayres, William Harris’ “Faire is the Heaven” and  Jonathan Dove’s The Passing of the Year.

Earth Ritual calls us home to our relationship with the earth. This work for 16 voices and instruments sets texts from several traditions in three parts: origin, journey, and renewal. Celebrate Earth Day with Conspirare with this gorgeous world premiere by Robert Kyr.
